Learn how to use Odif 808 pattern glue to temporarily attach sewing patterns to fabric, cut accurately, and reuse the pattern later by reactivating the adhesive.
Quick answer
Use Odif 808 pattern glue to temporarily stick paper patterns to fabric, cut your pieces, then peel off the pattern without residue. To reuse, reactivate the glue with a warm iron.
Why use a temporary spray adhesive for patterns
Odif 808 is a reactivatable spray glue designed for temporarily attaching paper patterns to fabric. Unlike pins or weights, it holds the pattern flat and prevents shifting during cutting, which is especially helpful for slippery fabrics or complex curves.
The glue stays on the pattern, not the fabric, so the fabric remains clean. After cutting, you can remove the pattern and store it. When you want to use the pattern again, a quick ironing pass reactivates the adhesive.
What to consider before spraying
Odif 808 works best on paper patterns and lightweight to medium-weight fabrics. For very delicate or sheer fabrics, test on a scrap first to ensure the glue does not show through. The spray is repositionable while wet, but once dry, it holds firmly until reactivated.
Work in a well-ventilated area and protect your work surface with newspaper or a drop cloth. Shake the can well before each use.
How to use Odif 808 pattern glue
- Prepare your pattern and fabric: Lay your fabric flat on a protected surface. Place the paper pattern on top, right side up. Smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles. Make sure the fabric is larger than the pattern so you have room to cut.
- Spray the glue: Hold the can about 6–8 inches away and spray a light, even coat over the pattern. Cover the entire pattern area, but avoid oversaturating. The glue dries quickly, so work in sections if needed. A light coat is enough; too much glue can soak through the paper or leave residue.
- Press the pattern onto the fabric: Gently press the pattern onto the fabric, starting from the center and working outward. Smooth any air pockets with your hand. The pattern will stick temporarily and can be repositioned while the glue is still wet. If the pattern shifts, lift and reposition it immediately before the glue dries.
- Cut your fabric: Using sharp fabric shears or a rotary cutter, cut along the pattern edges. The adhesive holds the paper in place, reducing slipping. Cut slowly for accuracy. Check that the pattern hasn't lifted at the edges before cutting.
- Remove and store the pattern: Peel the pattern off the fabric. It will not be sticky to the touch and can be folded or rolled for storage. The glue remains on the paper, ready for reactivation. Store the pattern flat or rolled—avoid creasing the glue layer.
- Reuse the pattern later: To reuse, place the pattern on fabric and press with a dry iron set to the satin/wool setting (no steam). The heat reactivates the glue, making it tacky again. Press for a few seconds until it sticks. Test a corner first to confirm the glue reactivates. Overheating may damage delicate fabrics.
